Kangaroo Point is a suburb of Brisbane and is located on a small peninsula directly east across the Brisbane River from the Brisbane CBD. It is surrounded on three sides by the Brisbane River. It is said to derive its name from the many kangaroos that lived in the area prior to its development. Whilst heavy engineering industries dominated the suburb for most of the 20th century, towards the end of the century the sites towards the tip of the peninsula were redeveloped for high-rise apartment buildings, including Macleay Tower and Villas, and it is now primarily a residential area. High-rise development continued into the 21st century with a small number of Queenslander homes dotted between them. Moving south of the suburb sees medium to low-density housing and a greater retention of old Queensland homes.

There are many historical landmarks in the area and many recreational activities available. Some of these are listed in local attractions and landmarks. In addition, Macleay Tower and Villas is served well by local restaurants, a convenience store, hairdresser, bottle shop and fitness centre. Supermarkets, banks, post offices, medical centres, pharmacies, larger shopping centres and many more restaurants are found in neighbouring suburbs such as East Brisbane, New Farm and Teneriffe as well as the Brisbane CBD.
